Just returned from an incredible visit to white sands national park. I live in the northwest and can work remotely until later this year so want to take this. I did a cross country national parks road trip last summer and white sands was easily in my top 5 parks, the landscape is so dynamic as the light changes and hiking it feels otherworldly.

Alamogordo has some cool museums. Once you leave albuquerque, you’ll want to stay in carlsbad for that. I embarked on the alkali trail early in the morning, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The drive between el paso and white sands is over an hour, 3 hours between white sands and carlsbad and then 2 hours between there and el paso.

I need help deciding if. Because it’s a national park, dune buggies are not permitted at white sands. Carlsbad caverns, in my opinion, will take. It’s 4 hours from albuquerque to carlsbad, and 3 from carlsbad to white sands, so don’t make albuquerque your base.
