Planning a road trip through the southwest this summer. The pure white sand dunes were stunningly. White sands national park my boyfriend and i were wanting to take a trip out to new mexico for the white sands national park but i noticed a lot of it is closed off due to that plane crash.

Because it’s a national park, dune buggies are not permitted at white sands.
Would it be worth a slight rerouting of our trip in order to visit white sands np?
Beyond that there are picnic areas and tons of sand boarding. Carlsbad caverns, in my opinion, will take. Visiting white sands national park. So i plan to stay in santa fe, nm in may for two weeks.
The drive between el paso and white sands is over an hour, 3 hours between white sands and carlsbad and then 2 hours between there and el paso. I need help deciding if. It’s 4 hours from albuquerque to carlsbad, and 3 from carlsbad to white sands, so don’t make albuquerque your base. Cj’s si señor has great mexican food.
I embarked on the alkali trail early in the morning, and it was absolutely breathtaking.
I did a cross country national parks road trip last summer and white sands was easily in my top 5 parks, the landscape is so dynamic as the light changes and hiking it feels otherworldly. Once you leave albuquerque, you’ll want to stay in carlsbad for that. White sands and the surrounding area has places that can be worth a couple days of exploring imo. Alamogordo has some cool museums.
