It’s 4 hours from albuquerque to carlsbad, and 3 from carlsbad to white sands, so don’t make albuquerque your base. With a potential government shutdown looking. The drive between el paso and white sands is over an hour, 3 hours between white sands and carlsbad and then 2 hours between there and el paso.

White sands national park my boyfriend and i were wanting to take a trip out to new mexico for the white sands national park but i noticed a lot of it is closed off due to that plane crash. My family and i have a vacation to new mexico planned and we are so excited to see carlsbad caverns and white sands national parks. About 2miles and you can add loops to make it bigger. I work right here at white sands missile range, and hell, even on post it's safe from something like radiation, lol.
Personally to maximize the time and relaxation i would choose chiricahua national monument, white sands, guadalupe, carlsbad, and saguaro since. I did a cross country national parks road trip last summer and white sands was easily in my top 5 parks, the landscape is so dynamic as the light changes and hiking it feels otherworldly. Fresnal falls (recommend) three rivers petroglyphs lava flow near carrizozo aguirre springs. Beyond that there are picnic areas and tons of sand boarding.
Carlsbad caverns, in my opinion, will take.
