I live in the northwest and can work remotely until later this year so want to take this. Beyond that there are picnic areas and tons of sand boarding. I did a cross country national parks road trip last summer and white sands was easily in my top 5 parks, the landscape is so dynamic as the light changes and hiking it feels otherworldly.

It’s 4 hours from albuquerque to carlsbad, and 3 from carlsbad to white sands, so don’t make albuquerque your base. Carlsbad caverns, in my opinion, will take. Visiting white sands national park. Once you leave albuquerque, you’ll want to stay in carlsbad for that.
Planning a road trip through the southwest this summer. Just returned from an incredible visit to white sands national park. Cj’s si señor has great mexican food. The pure white sand dunes were stunningly.
The drive between el paso and white sands is over an hour, 3 hours between white sands and carlsbad and then 2 hours between there and el paso.
Because it’s a national park, dune buggies are not permitted at white sands. So i plan to stay in santa fe, nm in may for two weeks. Alamogordo has some cool museums. White sands and the surrounding area has places that can be worth a couple days of exploring imo.
