White sands national park my boyfriend and i were wanting to take a trip out to new mexico for the white sands national park but i noticed a lot of it is closed off due to that plane crash. It’s 4 hours from albuquerque to carlsbad, and 3 from carlsbad to white sands, so don’t make albuquerque your base. So i plan to stay in santa fe, nm in may for two weeks.

Carlsbad caverns, in my opinion, will take.
Just returned from an incredible visit to white sands national park. The pure white sand dunes were stunningly. Once you leave albuquerque, you’ll want to stay in carlsbad for that. I embarked on the alkali trail early in the morning, and it was absolutely breathtaking.
I did a cross country national parks road trip last summer and white sands was easily in my top 5 parks, the landscape is so dynamic as the light changes and hiking it feels otherworldly. Cj’s si señor has great mexican food. Visiting white sands national park. Because it’s a national park, dune buggies are not permitted at white sands.
Beyond that there are picnic areas and tons of sand boarding.
Planning a road trip through the southwest this summer. I live in the northwest and can work remotely until later this year so want to take this. White sands and the surrounding area has places that can be worth a couple days of exploring imo. The drive between el paso and white sands is over an hour, 3 hours between white sands and carlsbad and then 2 hours between there and el paso.
